1Alberta’s advanced technology sector has been growing by 15% to 20% each year, for the past 10 years and now employs over 70,000 people and is valued at $10 billion. The following sectors; Information Technology, Wireless & Telecommunication and Geomatics were identified as internationally recognized industry clusters. Life Sciences is an emerging cluster which encompasses technology in the health and medical industry. Other major areas of focus in the technology sector include Digital Media and the related film and television sub sectors.
As a hub for the petroleum and oil & gas industry, Alberta has a particularly strong engineering sector. Engineering Services, Automation and Electronics Design – specifically radio frequency design – are all a part of the Industrial Engineering sector and are important contributors to the continued development of the technology sector.
The technology industry is growing exponentially. As it grows, Alberta expands to accommodate it.
